Who: Terra, Kain, Porom, anyone else who wanted to join them
What: Seeking to defeat the source of snowstorms.
Where: Mount Ordeals
Warnings: Uh, violence is a given. Also, Terra flashing people.

The journey to Mount Ordeals was far from pleasant, naturally. Even with bundling up against the cold (though not too much, since she needed enough flexibility to fight) didn't provide much in the way of relief. The frigid winds still felt as though they were slicing right through Terra, and she wasn't sure if she would ever feel warm again, at this rate.

And yet, she wouldn't turn back. Porom needed their aid, and if she was right about the creature's abilities, the snowstorms wouldn't stop anyway until it and others like it were defeated. They would just have to manage somehow until then.

Upon reaching the base of the mountain, Terra glanced at Kain. She knew what this place meant to him, and the feelings that were being stirred as he encountered it once more. Hopefully, they wouldn't have to ascend all the way just to find Porom...but if they did, she would do her best to help soothe him, as much as she could. Time to focus, though. She stepped forward, looking for any sign of the pink-haired mage.

[ooc: I started this in prose just because, but feel free to use action brackets, if you'd rather.]

[Kain is in an especially broody mindset as they reach the mountain. It's strange to be back here, after being pulled away for the gods' war. Those months he'd spent living here seem so distant.]

[It takes a moment to realize Terra is looking at him. When he does, he gives her an apologetic glance in return. But he keeps his stern front in place for now. They have a task to accomplish so he'd better focus on that.]

It's fine. We must see this through.

[Terra nods, then raises a hand to ward off a particularly strong blast of rigid air.]

Let's keep going, then.

[She falls silent at that point, hoping to either find the creature before it spots them, or Porom before they must do battle.]

[Porom runs into them a little way up the mountain path, running to meet them when she spots them. She looks half-frozen and glad to see anyone. Even Kain's a welcome sight at this point, which is saying a lot.]

Are- are you both well?

[Kain really doesn't want to be here, and his expression is more annoyed than usual. Grump grump grump.]

We're fine.

[By contrast, Terra seems relieved to find Porom at last.]

Yes, the journey here wasn't...that bad. Where is the creature?

It's a little further up, I had to teleport to move past it. You're- ready to fight it?

I'm ready.

[Kain's look turns all the more stern and determined, he's not about to let his angst get in the way of his fighting.]

[Terra nods solemnly, hand on the hilt of her sword.]

As am I. We have your back.

Thank you.

[She leads them up the path, tugging her thin cloak around herself tightly. Soon it starts to get dramatically colder.]

[Kain tries to ignore the cold as much as he can, continuing along the path. He watches warily for signs of anything...]

[Terra immediately begins thinking of protective magics, but then remembers what little is available. As it gets colder, she focuses enough to cast Haste on Kain, then draws her sword, peering around warily.]

It's close, isn't it?

[Porom uses her own white magic, using Shell on everyone to lessen the sting of the cold at least a little.

She doesn't need to answer Terra's question, a large beast with large green wings answers it by revealing itself.]

[A flying adversary? Well, then. He can easily handle this. Kain prepares as he eyes it... then he leaps up into the air, for a Jump. He soars high above as always then comes flying down to stab toward the enemy.]

[While Kain does that, Terra casts Haste on herself and Porom. They need as much of an edge as she can give them. Then she focuses, getting ready to cast Firaga as soon as Kain's out of the way.]

[The monster casts doom on both the mages, Kain escaping due to his jump, before roaring in pain as both the jump attack and Firaga hit it.

Porom casts reflect on herself. It'll keep her or Terra from using healing magic on her but Terra's black magic is strong now she can see it for herself - they can't really risk that being reflected back at the party.]

Miss Terra! It can use reflect, so use your spells on me!

[Kain doesn't let up once he's landed, charging in to stab at the enemy.]

[While Kain's keeping their creature distracted, Terra does as Porom requests. She casts Bio on Porom, which bounces off and strikes their target, instead. It retaliates by casting Doom on Kain. Now there's a time limit for all....]

...Terra. Can you use Raise?

[While she still has time left, she reflects Holy off herself. The demon does use Reflect next, and then prepares to cast Snowstorm.]

Everyone, brace yourselves! [She yells, doing so herself. Reflect won't do a thing against the attack, though shell will absorb at least some of the damage.]

[Hmph. He'd better take action fast. Kain makes an attempt at one last hit on it, preparing before the inevitable. He lashes out with a swift jab.]

Yes, I--

[Terra cries out as the snowstorm reaches her. Shell definitely helps, but she can still feel that spell tear through her, numbing her. For a moment, it's all she can do just to brace herself. When it starts to dissipate, she wastes no time in casting Cura. Porom may be the main healer, but they need all that they can get.

Knowing that time is particularly important thanks to that dread spell, Terra focuses once again. Tornado is one of her most effective spells, and she can only hope it helps them now.]

[Porom bounces Curaja off the enemy's reflect, back at the party before Tornado bounces off Porom's reflect spell at the Ash. It functions differently to how Terra may remember - swirling toward the enemy rather than surrounding her and knocking it with thousands of tiny attacks until it falls back, clearly very weakened. Porom looks a little horrified that Terra would use it even in this dire of a situation - they may need to discuss how that particular spell differs in this world later.

Still, it's done its job - the monster is only hanging on by a thread and at this point it might be more merciful to cut it.]

[Kain wastes no time, knowing that it must be ended as soon as possible. He's up in the air for another jump... and a flip down to stab at the Ash.]

[Terra frowns, wondering why her magic manifested different from what she had expected. It disturbs her more than she likes, but her attention remains on the creature. As Kain delivers that blow, the creature roars and trashes, undoubtedly dying now...yet its tenacity making Terra nervous. She doesn't want to see its death drawn out, not only for its sake but due to the Doom spells hanging over them all. Only when it finally goes still does she relax.]

That was close....

[She glances to them both, checking to see if healing is needed, though that Curaja likely took care of all wounds.]

[She sighs with relief as she feels the black magic running through her veins and approaching her heart slowly vanish. That was closer than she'd have liked. A spot of light - daylight - appears above them and begins to spread as the skies slowly start to clear.]

Is everyone okay? [Curaja's spinning around her fingertips already, even as she asks]

[Kain leaps back into a position away from the creature, not letting his guard down until he's sure it's totally dead. Then he relaxes.]

I'm fine.

[Which is kind of an ambiguous statement in Kain-terms, but he really doesn't feel too bad off. Though that snowstorm took a lot out of him, for sure...]

[Terra's frowning, though not at them, slightly disturbed about something yet this is probably not the place to talk about it.]

I'm not hurt.

[She glances up at the sky and her frown eases.]

That's a little better.

[She nods, curaja fading]

It's a little warmer already. Thank heavens.

...Terra, may I speak to you? When we return.

[She kind of needs a rest after being stuck up here for so long, but discussion of magic nearly always takes priority for her.]

[Terra looks a bit nervous at that, being suddenly put on the spot...but she had wanted to speak with the mages of Mysidia. She nods after a moment.]

...yes. Alright.

[Kain gives Porom a suspicious look. Why does she want to talk without him around? He's suddenly paranoid.]

If you're going to inform her about my past betrayals, she already knows.

[...]

-if you wanted to know, I was meaning to discuss magic. I didn't expect you'd have a great deal of input on the subject.

Not every conversation is about your failures, Sir Kain.

[Terra winces, not wanting to be in the middle their mutual hostility.]

Please, stop! You don't need to do this. Let's just return to town, alright?

[Kain turns a harsh glare on Porom at that last statement. But he has to listen to Terra...]

[After a moment or so of more glaring, he looks away.]

...fine.

Yes. We should let them know that the storm will pass.
