Attack on Fabul

The strange monk children with the pointed ears have been restless all day. They start climbing in the early evening, just before the sun sets and the air cools, clambering to the highest point in the city. They stand there, far above the ground, spreading their arms wide to welcome a great shadow in the sky.

The dragons that have been gathering around the city fly upward as one as swiftly and suddenly as if every one of them were shot from a bow as the shadow grows larger. They meet Bahamut in the sky and he strikes them down as they attack. There are no roars from him, no displays of strength, nothing that would indicate his own will is in control.

Some of the dragons have allowed those who have gathered to defend Fabul to ride on their backs, allowing them to face their father in the skies.

[Kain has been on alert, prepared for this, so once he notices signs of the attack he hurries to board the dragon he's been waiting beside. He calls out to Terra.]

Let's go!

[Terra races over, not about to miss this moment for anything. She's quickly aboard, just after him...and just in time for the dragon to take flight.

As they ascend, Terra focuses on her magic and casts Haste on herself, Kain and the dragon. She also casts Libra on Bahamut when they're close enough, just to make sure that no weaknesses go unexploited.]

[Kain is grateful to have Terra there, leaving the magic to her as he directs the dragon along on its course. Not that he has to do much for it- this dragon is well seasoned and used to fighting. Kain can tell they'll fare very well together as a team.]

[Terra frowns as Libra tells her nothing useful, no weaknesses to exploit. That probably means a tough battle ahead, but she's prepared herself for that outcome already. As they approach, Terra waits until they're within range to begin casting her magic....]

[As they approach, Kain continues guiding the dragon along. He readies a Cyclone, unleashing it once they're within range. The dragon, of course, will unleash a burst of fire.]

[Terra adds to the fire with her own Firaga spell, hoping the combined effect will do more damage. She immediately begins casting Bio soon after, so that Sap can do some of the work for them.]

[That looks like that ought to do some damage, and Kain gets the dragon to move back in for another attack, all the while preparing to defend when Bahamut counters.]

[The Libra returns only noise, the Maenad's old over Bahamut's will interfering with the spell.

Bahamut swats the attacking dragons out of the air like insects, closing his jaws around the neck of one and roughly tossing it aside, knocking others out of the sky as it strikes them. He's not yet hit Kain or Terra's dragons, but the cyclone and firaga catch his attention. He lashes out at Kain's dragon with his claws.

And he's not the only one who's noticed them. From some way above him, a distant figure moves. A second later meteors tear through the sky.

[Terra can't help but wince as she notices how easily Bahamut defeats those dragons. She's about to cast another spell Bahamut lashes out, and it's all she can do to hold on. Just when she thinks she's able to concentrate, a flash catches her attention and she gasps, staring upward. Meteor.

Knowing that every moment counts, Terra snaps into focus. She casts Blizzara, not aiming at either threat so much as trying to deflect those meteors. Even if the dragon is extremely agile, it will still need help.]

[Kain's eyes widen and he gasps in shock as he sees the Meteor descending. While Terra makes use of Blizzara, he calls upon the wind, unleashing Cyclone with all the intensity he has in him at the falling rocks. He tries his best to use the wind to aim as many flaming rocks as he can toward Bahamut instead.]

[He also shouts some commands at the dragon, trying to give it some extra help at finding its way through the hazards.]

[Though Terra and Kain's dragons successfully weave through the meteors, most of the others aren't so lucky. a few strike Bahamut as a result of Kain's actions. He doesn't flinch, but they do leave great dents in his scales.

The woman in the sky suddenly drops, landing barefoot on Bahamut's back. She points at Terra, deciding that out of the riders she's the least experienced, and small orbs of energy begin to leave the esper girl as the Maenad casts Osmose. Bahamut lashes out at her dragon.

Below, the children who had climbed to the top of the tower shout and wave attempts at warnings. When those fail they begin to glow, becoming thinner and paler as wings tear out of their backs. They fly up, healing falling dragons as they meet them, staying out of range of attack but preparing to catch anyone who falls.]

[Terra winces as she feels part of her magic draining away, thanks to that spell. But two can play that game; she casts Osmose in turn, then follows it up with another blast of Firaga. She hasn't yet noticed the children-turned-sylphs, giving Bahamut and this strange woman her undivided attention.]

[Kain sees the woman- that's the maenad, is it?- aiming for Terra, which naturally enrages him. Between that and the control she's holding over Bahamut... he has to do something. Kain easily guides the dragon, swooping and then ascending, getting into position to eventually fly down at Bahamut for another attack.]

[Bahamut continues to strike at Terra's dragon, but the Maenad's attention is drawn away from her. The attack might not be that dangerous to Bahamut, but opportunities are to be taken. As Kain reaches the peak of his ascent, Thundaga strikes down at him from above.]

Kain!

[Terra cries as she sees the bolt of magic streak down toward him, though there's no time to stop it from happening. She can only hope that her curative magic -or at worst, her Raise spell- will be enough to help him in time.]

[Kain's attention is solely on his target and making sure the dragon is aiming in the right direction... so of course, he doesn't even realize there's magic shooting for him until it's too late. He shouts as the magic strikes, the electrical bolt burning and sizzling as it briefly surrounds him.]

[The dragon is less affected, being much larger, although it doesn't emerge unscathed either... and its motions through the sky are suddenly wildly uncontrolled while Kain is busy writhing in pain.]

Later in the battle, the dragons eventually fail to keep their father from landing. The stone floor of the courtyard cracks beneath his feet and he turns toward the castle, where the crystal is held.

[Kain's determination doesn't waver once he's on the ground. Though this is the first huge battle he's been in since returning to life, he doesn't feel too worn out yet. He watches Bahamut's motions carefully and then springs up above him into a Jump.]

[Terra, having just renewed Haste, then transforms. It's time to display her full power...and hope that it's enough to snap Bahamut out of his current state. Rising into the air, she casts Firaga on her target.]

[The familiar glow catches Kain's eye but he has no time to stop and stare- as much as Kain is usually entranced by the whole transformation process. For now he focuses on his descent, soaring down just as the flames of Firaga are dissipating. He takes a heavy jab down toward Bahamut's form before he leaps aside for a landing.]

( with the commotion outside fang hurries towards the source of the noise; only to see the great dragon land with a mighty force. just as promised though, there are others that have come to gather to defend the castle -- and the crystal ) Well this is a good a time as any to join the party I'd say!

( with her spear in hand she rushes forward, pole vaulting herself up into the air with her weapon and trying to land a hit as she drags the end of her lance down the side of his body landing again on the ground ) Terra and Kain I presume? ( she casts them a quick look... taking note of that girl's form... )

Yes!

[There's really no time to say more; Terra's focus must remain on Bahamut. She throws a Spider's Silk in hopes of slowing him down, then casts Haste on Fang as well before ascending, powering up for another magical assault.]

Glad you could join.

[Kain says with a nod, since he'd spoken with her over the linkshell, he'd known to expect Fang. A spear fighter as well, it appears... although she isn't wearing the armor, she clearly has skills resembling a dragoon. He'll have to ask about that later.]

[For now, this time Kain leaps up at Bahamut from underneath, taking advantage of his position to go into a Rising Drive, a variation on his jump, spinning and rising up at the Eidolon from below.]

( there's a nod in kain's direction as a unexpected -- yet familiar sensation washes over her. her body felt lighter -- quicker. haste.
she looked up at the great dragon... this wasn't the first time she'd fought bahamut... ) All right, give it your best shot! ( she attempted to taunt him, hoping to win over his attention for the others to hit him where it hurt... )

This is proving inefficient.

[The voice isn't coming from Bahamut, instead from the girl stood behind him. The dragon lord has been protecting her throughout this battle, taking any attacks meant to strike her.]

It needs to end now. Kill them.

[And Bahamut begins to gather power for Mega Flare. You have five turns.]

[That girl...Terra remembers her from inside the Fire Crystal. Dread grows within her as Bahamut gathers power, but she refuses to let it show. Instead, she quickly casts Bio twice in succession, hoping that at least one of those times it will stick enough to inflict Sap.]

[Kain recognizes the signs he's seeing, what Bahamut is preparing to unleash. They have no time to lose. After Kain lands from his latest attack, he's swiftly back up in the air. He far above Bahamut this time, and comes in at him to take a heavy, deep spear thrust at him.]

[Bahamut is stuck by the attacks but doesn't flinch and continues to gather power. The woman casts Black hole, removing the Haste, Slow and Sap effects. The slyphs rush forward, putting themselves between Bahamut and the party to get their attention.]

He's fighting! He's fighting her! Distract her somehow, try to break her concentration even just a little!

[And they turn to Bahamut, moving closer to him than would generally be considered wise.]

Bahamut! Father! Please fight her! We're your subjects- your children, all the dragons who've gathered here are your children! Even the girl shares your blood, and the dragoons of all kinds of places have come to help you. Please stop this, don't let her make you hurt us any more-

[Terra's attention is effective snagged and she nods firmly to their advice. She's about to reply when they move closer to Bahamut and winces, worried for them.]

Move back! You're too close!

[But she has to take advantage of their offered advice before Bahamut's gathering power is unleashed. Thinking quickly, she remembers one potent spell and sends a couple of Tornado spells at the maenad.]

[Distract her, hm? Kain comes soaring down for another landing, but he doesn't spend long on the ground before he springs back up yet again. Up, up he ascends, this time aiming his jump at the maenad...]

( a distraction was it? she wasn't exactly sure who those little ones were, but if they were on their side... then there was no problem with that.
despite her best efforts, fang wasn't certain that her taunts were reaching bahamut on the level she'd hoped they would... so it was time to break out the big guns... ) Sounds like we ought to be fightin' fire... ( out from her scorched l'cie brand formed a crystal, which she quickly took hold of in her other hand... squeezing it tight -- then throwing it up into the air -- ) with fire! ( she cried, swinging her spear around to collide with it in mid-fall.
as it shatters, there is a great light from above, from which several glyphs begin to take shape... )

[The summoning catches the Maenad's attention, but Terra and Kain's attacks keep her from doing anything about it. The Tornadoes don't affect her as they would other monsters in the world ~~because bossfight~~, but they and the jump attack are enough to keep her from doing anything about Fang summoning. Bahamut continues to gather energy as the Sylphs plead with him.]

[Less than certain that the sylphs will be able to get through to him, Terra continues her attempts to both distract the maenad and weaken Bahamut before he can rain down destruction on them all.

She casts another round of Bio -even if the maenad takes away the Sap effect, she'll still have to waste time to do so- then charges magical energy into her arms, getting ready to unleash one of her most powerful attacks....]

[He has to help with the distraction still, so that Fang can finish summoning... and Bahamut can be prevented from what he was about to unleash.]

[Kain leaped into the sky again, once more targeting the maenad as he comes spinning straight down with his spear aimed for her.]

Bahamut! ( the figure was shadowed in the distance, seeming to gain a more defined shape as it came racing down towards the earth, crashing through the glyphs at an enviable speed
just before he makes contact with the earth, the eidolon spins around, revealing his from and making his entrance on the battlefield -- )

You know what to do! ( fang yells, taking a battle stance again as she rushes forward. she intends to take the controlled bahamut on with her own -- who follows her into battle with a great sweep of his claws from above )

Looks like I'm fashionably late!

[Without further preamble, Edgar joins the fray and launches himself into a jump attack, following Kain's lead and aiming for the maenad. Best to go straight to the source. He flashes Fang a grin as he vaults past her, prepared to ride his spear down to strike at their enemy.]
