What: Meeting up, talking about a common ally

[Kain is taking a break from hunting for a moment, watching Zephyr soar around nearby. The little dragon is already growing noticeably, and becoming even stronger. Only a month or so, and she's made such great progress.]

[While Zephyr is enjoying herself, Kain takes a look around. Terra should be around, or catching up to them soon...]

( well... all she'd learned in baron was that this guy was apparently a zombie. but that girl didn't mention anything about him being undead... either way, it made serah feel a little uneasy, and a little disappointed that she hadn't been able to find them in the castle town...

there wasn't really much else to do but continue on foot. maybe there was a chance they were still in the area... something moving in the distance caught her eye, however -- ) Is someone there?! ( a pause -- as her weapon took the shape of a sword in her hands -- if it was a monster, she'd have to act quick... )

[Kain narrows his eyes, calling Zephyr over toward him in case this person means trouble. After all, Kain knows well how people sometimes can react to dragons... even one who's still a baby among her kind. He holds onto his spear, prepared to defend them if needed.]

What do you want?

( oh, it was someone... she relaxes a little, but keep the weapon at her side -- ) Sorry about that! I hadn't seen anyone on the road for awhile, so I was a little surprised I guess. I'm looking... for a man named Kain. ( this guy wasn't going to freak out about it too, was he...? )

[That's... an unfortunate coincidence, and doesn't put his mind at ease. Kain thinks carefully, but he's very certain he hasn't turned randomly evil on anyone lately. He always remembers when he backstabs.]

[Still, he remains all tense and guarded.]

Why are you seeking him?

( she looks him over, a little more carefully this time... ) So you're not going to blow up at me or rant and rave about he's supposed to be some sort of... zombie?

[Siiiiiiiigh, not this again. The rumors are still pretty strong in certain areas of the world- especially Baron. Still, it annoys Kain. He keeps a tight grip on his spear.]

What else have you heard about that?

( she sees that spear... the last guy she met that sounded like you wasn't the friendliest, either... ) Isn't that enough? ( a pause -- ) Can you just tell me whether or not he came this way?

I can do more than that.

[Kain keeps that spear leveled on her as he approaches.]

...I'm Kain.

[Terra soon approaches, a smile on her lips as she spots Zephyr above, beckoning to the little dragon to join her...then her eyes widen as she spots Kain ahead, leveling his spear at Serah. At that, she darts forward.]

Kain! Stop!

You?! But that's...! ( she's obviously taken by surprise -- but her eyes stay on that spear. she raises her sword also to indicate she's not just going to take this in stride... just as the familiar face of the green haired girl makes the scene -- )

Terra!?

[Seeing her is enough to make Kain back off from any potential aggression. He lowers his spear but remains rather tense. He's addressing Terra still, but with a half glance on Serah. Because of what she'd said, he's drawing one conclusion.]

...it's another zombie hunter.

[Terra shakes her head, pausing just before the pair.]

No, she's not. Kain, this is Serah...Lightning's sister. She wanted to meet us and learn what she could.

( serah pauses... still eyeing kain a little bit still as she lowers her guard slightly -- lightning was friends with someone like this? ) She's right. Sorry, I guess I could see how it might have looked otherwise...

Lightning's... [Kain stares at her, beginning to see the resemblance. Oh. Uh. His mistake. Kain lowers his spear and lets go of the defensive stance.]

Forgive me... I didn't know.

[And just to make this clear before they proceed with anything else:]

As you can see, I'm no zombie.

[Terra smiles apologetically to Serah, shrugging.]

We've been getting that a lot, from people who listen to those silly rumors.

( there's a bit of nervous laughter coming from her... )

No, you're certainly not... Heh. Besides, it seems like that would have been something Terra would have mentioned. ( it's a bit of a joke -- anything to lighten the mood... )

It was a little strange hearing that from everyone, though... ( aka she wonders how it started to begin with... )

...They had a reason for it, but that doesn't make it true.

[At least she isn't trying to "cure" him of zombification or anything, that's a good sign.]

[She nods, thinking that topic has exhausted itself and isn't likely to improve Kain's mood.]

Why don't we head back to camp and settle down? It's a long story, so we might as well.

That sounds good. ( she nods ) Lead the way! ( with terra's arrival, she does feel a little less on edge... and as such, her sword disappears from her grip. as she walks... she tries to imagine what sort of interactions her sister had with the tall brooding stranger... )

Very well...

[Kain moves along, every so often glancing curiously at Serah as well. Back in the war, it wasn't as if they had known anything about their lives- or not much. So he'd not even speculated on Lightning having a sister. How strange to think, they must all have people like that who were left at their home worlds...]

Zephyr, it's all right!

[Kain calls out to the small dragon, who's flying some distance above.]

[Terra waves to Zephyr, beckoning for her to join them.]

She won't hurt you, Serah. Zephyr's a hatchling we've been caring for...well, not so much a hatchling now. She's grown a bit.

[She glances to Kain, proud of all he's done to help the little one and hoping he'll open up some with talking about his favorite dragon.]

Hatchling? ( she looks above -- smiling a little at the tiny dragon... ) Wow. So she's... sort of like your companion, then?

[Kain looks all prideful and happy as he gazes toward Zephyr.]

She is. The dragons entrusted me with her, and I raised her from hatching... the bond we share is strong, and unyielding.

[She nods to that, happy to see him happy.]

She'll be a fierce dragon, one day...and she's already on her way there.

( well, their happiness seems to be catching as serah looks a little brighter also -- she knew what it was like to have a traveling companion of her own... ) She's a bit of a far cry from a moogle but... I think I know what you guys mean. ( she clasps her hands together at chest height for a moment -- ) About sharing a bond.

( and she looks back up towards zephyr again -- ) She seems happy!

It sounds as if you do understand...

[Moogles aren't fierce enough for dragoons! Though Kain knows Terra has a special fondness for them... Kain looks toward Zephyr, who's really enjoying herself, circling through the air playfully.]

...and she is happy... that's a good sign, it means she's already feeling comfortable around you.

Zephyr's instincts haven't been wrong about people, so far.

[Upon spotting the campsite, Terra's pace quickens.]

We're just about there. I did bring in supplies from town, if you're thirsty or hungry....

Yeah... I think I just might. ( she fought alongside creatures that would be considered 'monsters' in their own right, too )

Hmm. Maybe something to drink? To be honest, the trip was a little longer than I thought it would be. Though I can't say I blame you guys for wanting to get away from all the publicity.

Yes... it's far better for us to spend time away from town... better for Zephyr as well.

[Kain watches the small dragon as she goes to settle in the camp.]

[Terra nods and goes to fetch a bowl of water for Zephyr first, and then brings over a pitcher of cold tea and some glasses. Upon filling the first one, she offers it to Serah.]

Given some time, I'm sure that will die down. People will move on to other rumors.

[She glances to Kain, silently encouraging him. Serah has a right to know about her sister.]
